In the mid 19th century, during the Victorian Era, the art of taxidermy has become a recognized artistic discipline. During this period people became more interested in natural history and nature in general, which was accompanied by the development of taxidermy.

Animal personifications became increasingly popular in the mid 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century, in all areas of art, including taxidermy as well. Ferenc Mere, an unparalleled taxidermy artist, created his masterpiece in the period between 1910 and 1920. He has left behind an exceptional collection of stuffed frogs representing the lives of our ancestors.

Mere’s collection testifies to his extraordinary artistic skills, as well as to his artistic eye capable of representing human life with great ease, through both scenography, movements, positions, as well as depicted emotions.
